Nai Ton Beach
This quiet bay nestled at the foot of high hills has a fine strip
of sand. There is some accommodation but virtually no other business.
Normally very quiet throughout the year. The beach is located between
Bang Tao Bay and Nai Yang.
Rawai Beach
Fringed with casuarina trees, Rawai is better
known for the sea gypsies living around the area. The beach is not
good for swimming as the water is very shallow. But locals and guests
go there to eat freshly barbecued seafood in open-air restaurants
that line the beach. Rawai provides a great early evening dinner
venue. During the day, this is also an excellent starting point
for a trip to the outlying islands of Ko Hae (Coral Island) Ko Lone
and Ko Racha/Raya. Longtail boats and speedboats can be rented from
the beach daily.
Surin Beach
Evergreen trees line this small, curving bay, beneath the foothills
north of Kamala. Many beach bars and restaurants are gathered at
the southern end. The water is superb but visitors must be careful
during low tide. The steep incline of the beach, turbulent water,
and big waves make Surin a dangerous place to swim.
Nai Yang Beach
This beach is home to the local National Park Office. The beach
itself is on a long, gently curving bay lined with evergreen trees
that provide welcome shade from the hot sun for picnickers who enjoy
this popular spot. The bay's extensive coral reef is home to many
different species of fish, and Nai Yang is well known as a nesting
site for sea turtles, which come to lay their eggs from November
to February. Due to development of the area, however, the number
of turtles arriving has dropped substantially. First class accommodation
